Portsmouth holding firm on their valuation of Wigan Athletic target

Portsmouth are refusing to budge on their £3 million valuation of Wigan Athletic target Jamal Lowe.

The Latics have been keen on the 24-year-old throughout this transfer window but will have to meet his price tag to lure him away from Fratton Park, according to a report by The Portsmouth News.

It is believed that Lowe wants to move to Wigan to play in the Championship next season. He knows their boss Paul Cook well from playing under him at Pompey two years ago and is eager to reunite with him.

Lowe, who has been on the radar of various clubs in the second tier this summer, is highly-rated by Portsmouth having scored 17 goals in all competitions last season to help Kenny Jackett’s side get into the League One Play-Offs.

He started his career at Barnet and made 15 appearances for the Bees altogether. He spent the majority of his early career out on loan in non-league with the likes of Hayes and Yeading United, Boreham Wood, Hitchin Town, St Albans City, Farnborough and Hemel Hempstead Town.

Lowe joined Hampton and Richmond Borough in 2015 and scored 33 goals in 54 games for the London side which earned him a move to the Football League with Pompey in October 2016.

He looks well equipped to make the step up to the Championship now but Wigan will have to put their hands in their pockets to bring him to the North-West before the season starts in two weeks.
