Free agent Andre Blackman is training with Southend United.

The 28-year-old is hoping to impress the League One side, according to a report by the Southend Echo.

Blackman is looking for a new club and is being looked at by the Shrimpers’ boss Kevin Bond.

The London-born left-back has had a well travelled career to date and started out with spells in the academies at Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth before signing his first professional contract at Bristol City.

He made two appearances for the Robins before he left for AFC Wimbledon in 2010. He played 16 times for the Wombles in all competitions.

Celtic snapped him up in 2011 and he spent a year with the Scottish Premiership champions prior to having stints at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Plymouth Argyle, Dover Athletic, Maidenhead United and Blackpool in the space of three years.

Blackman was on the move again in 2015 when he put pen-to-paper with Moroccan side MAS Fez. However, he came back to England to join Crawley Town in the summer of 2016.

He was a consistent performer for the Reds in League Two in his only season at the club and then played a handful of times the campaign after for Barnet.

Blackman was released by the Bees last year and has spent time on trial at Gillingham since. He will be hoping to earn a deal with Southend this summer.

Bond’s side have brought in striker Brandon Goodship from Weymouth and midfielder Mark Milligan so far in this transfer window.
